In the sacred book of Numbers, chapter 22,
A tale unfolds that leaves one in a daze.
A tale of a prophet named Balaam, so to say,
Who was intent on going his own way.
God had a message, His command was clear,
To Moab's land, Balaam should not steer.
But Balaam, in his stubbornness, took his path,
Unaware of the Lord's impending wrath.
Upon his donkey, he journeyed forth,
Unmindful of God's decree, he set his course north.
Then the angel of the Lord stood in the way,
An invisible barrier, causing the donkey to stay.
Three times the donkey turned aside,
And three times Balaam's anger did rise.
With a staff in his hand, he struck her thrice,
Unseen was the angel, a divine device.
Then the Lord opened the donkey's mouth wide,
And she spoke to Balaam at the roadside.
"Why have you beaten me these three times?" she asked,
A miracle of God, in divine light basked.
Balaam saw the angel with his sword drawn,
And realized the error of the path he was on.
He bowed low, confessed his sin,
His obedience to God, henceforth to win.
This tale reminds us of God's mighty hand,
He can make a donkey talk at his command.
His power knows no bounds, nor His grace,
Guiding us, even when we lose our place.
